Dr. Sparks is the storytelling alter ego of Karl J. P. Smith. Karl received his doctorate in Biophysics, Computational, and Structural Biology from the University of Rochester Medical Center in April 2017, and when he wasn’t studying silicon nanomembranes he was typing stories for strangers on his mechanical typewriter. He now writes stories all over Pittsburgh.
If you’re curious how a scientist finds his way to storytelling, you can watch his TEDx talk here:
Karl was a AAAS Mass Media 2016 Fellow, and his popular science writing has appeared in Scientific American, Slate, and elsewhere.
